[Adastra] caterpillar on verbascum in September

Any idea on what this caterpillar is? It is the wrong time of the year for
Mullein Moth caterpillars (according to the books) and there are no yellow
markings.

Try sawfly larvae. Tenthredo scrophulariae (Symphyta) looks a good candidate.
