Here's an amazing thing:

It's a photo ID service for birds, butterflies and wildflowers. You tweet
(on Twitter) an image to @id_birds, @id_plants or @id_wildflowers and it'll
send back a couple of suggestions. The id is done entirely using computer
visual recognition - no human takes a look at it. The programmer reckons it
gets roughly 8 out of 10 identifications correct if a good quality picture
is used. Note also that it can't identify ALL species in these groups, just
a subset. Still, mightily impressive nonetheless, especially when you
consider that a few years ago Computer Science considered this problem
'virtually impossible'.
