Explore the landscape from a beetle?s perspective. A safari with Mark Telfer, one of the world?s greatest expert on beetles, will open your eyes to these extraordinary creatures, their remarkable life-cycles and the vital role they play in our ecology.

Some of the rarest beetle species in the UK are found at Knepp ? an indication of the history of our landscape and continuity of habitat. Elsewhere across the UK beetles are severely under threat, susceptible to the widespread use of Ivomectines (wormers), residues of which are found ubiquitously in the dung of livestock and horses, and our obsession with clearing up dead trees and fallen branches, and disposing of animal and bird carcasses.

We are thrilled to be part of ongoing research and monitoring of these wonderfully diverse and ingenious invertebrates. From tree-climbing ?ground? beetles and carrion beetles to bark beetles and dung beetles, Knepp Wildland supports an amazing array of different species.

Learn about the vital part beetles play in soil restoration, converting dead and decaying trees into nutrients, breaking down the carcasses of wild deer and birds, and burrowing dung into the earth. The strong of stomach can dig into a pile of dung and discover what a wealth of life it contains. We've found as many as 23 different species of dung beetle in a single cowpat. You?ll never look at manure in the same way again.
