Hello all

I have included below some information re an accredited course I am running
for PACA Adult Learning at Foredown Tower 24th January.

This is very much a beginners course and is part of the community programme
run by the college. It is designed to either help people interested in the
environment into FE as there is no entry requirements (and they can then
progress to level 2 and beyond) or help people gain a better understanding
of their local wildlife or develop an interest. There is a structured
syllabus but I have adapted the course to focus on local examples of
habitats and wildlife.

Please forward this if you know of someone who might be interested in this
course. The course is also funded by the skills agency and is only ?10 to
people claiming benefits, but who are genuinely interested in the course.

Many thanks

Steve

Environment and Conservation Level 1 (Course Code FE079)

An exciting new 17 week course exploring the local environment and
conservations starts 24th January at Foredown Tower Portslade. The course is
part of the Adult Learning education programme which aims to make adult
education more accessible to everyone. Course tutor Stephen Savage, a local
biologist and wildlife author, said ?this is the perfect location for a
wildlife course as we can take full advantage of its superb location on the
edge of the South Downs allowing us to work both inside and outside the
classroom?.

This accredited level 1 course focuses on habitats in particular woodland,
grassland and freshwater habitats and also examines how animals and plants
in these habitats are linked. Stephen said, ?While the course has a set
syllabus, the content has been adapted to cover local habitats and wildlife,
so participants will learn about their own local area as well?. The course
has been developed to cater for the needs and interests of a wide audience
ranging from adults who are keen to learn more about their surroundings to
people considering a career in the environment or other related outdoor
pursuits. Successful students will receive an FE level 1 certificate in
Environment and Conservation and have the option to progress to the level 2
course

While the course is open to anyone, a few places are also funded by the
skills agency so interested people who are currently in receipt of benefits
may be entitled to the special rate of ?10.
