Volunteer Day in the woods!
Please come and join us for a picnic at Cuckoo Barn this Saturday
This will be the fifth year that we have invited friends and neighbours
to join the Knepp Estate team, together with West Sussex County
Council's excellent Ranger Service, to enjoy a days volunteering in
return for some aching muscles, a few scratches, the odd blister and a
delicious lunch arranged by Charlie Burrell's superb housekeeper
Maureen.
The weather looks set to be good working weather on Saturday so do join
us on the 14th September for an enjoyable and fun day coppicing in the
woods.
We thought for a change, we could go north of the A272 to Pondtail Farm
& Renches Wood (the northern block), where there is lots of opportunity
for hazel coppicing, and most importantly lunch at the lovely Cuckoo
Barn
We will call in at Crabtree Platt, the wildflower meadow undergoing
restoration, for a chat from the experts about what they have been
doing, and there is the potential for some watery projects for those
that like restoring ponds and streams.
We will also go around the estate with a silky saw, vehicle and trailer
gathering oak "hollards" for dressing the tree houses and the day will
include a visit to one or more of the tree houses.
We will be meeting at the Estate Office at 9:30am. No experience
necessary but do bring appropriate clothing, footwear, gloves and your
favourite tools!
