Hello

I am running an Environment and Conservation Course starting 9th October
based at Foredown Tower run by Portslade Adult Learning and PACA Community
College. This is a first course to encourage people with no
formal qualifications in the environmental field to be able to participate
in a series of accredited courses. The course is supported by the skills
agency so it is also a course for people who are currently unemployed but
who are interested to move to a career in the environment or other outdoor
work. More information below, please forward this to anyone who you feel
might be interested.

Many Thanks

*PR Environment and Conservation Course *

An exciting Environment and Conservation Level 1 course is set to run at
Foredown Tower later next month taking advantage of its superb location on
the edge of the South Downs. The course is part of the Portslade Adult
Learning education programme which aims to make adult education accessible
to everyone.

Course tutor Stephen Savage a local biologist and wildlife author, said
?this is the perfect location for a wildlife course as we are able to work
both inside and outside the classroom?. The course starts on 9th October
and runs on two consecutive days a week on both Wednesday & Friday. The
sessions start at 10 am and finish at 3.00pm

This level 1 course focuses on habitats in particular woodland, grassland
and freshwater habitats and also examines how animals and plants in these
habitats are linked. Stephen said, ?While the course has a set syllabus,
the content has been adapted to cover local habitats and wildlife, so
participants will learn about their own local area as well?. ?There will
also be one full session field trip, last year we took the students to
Lewes Nature Reserve where they could study first-hand the ponds, streams,
river and woodland?.

We are very lucky in Sussex to have such beautiful surroundings and
fascinating wildlife. Foredown Tower is a gateway between the South Downs
and the surrounding urbanisation and wildlife moves freely between the two
including our own gardens. Students will undertake a mini project to study
the wildlife in their garden or similar local habitat.

The course is designed to meet a range of adult needs; from people who are
interested in pursuing a career in the environment or related field to
people who want to increase their knowledge about the local environment.
Successful students will receive an FE level 1 certificate in Environment
and Conservation and have the option to progress to the level 2 course.

While the course is open to anyone, it is also funded by the skills agency
so interested people who are currently in receipt of benefits may be
entitled to the special rate of ?10.
